 Holoportation

Introduction

Holoportation is a new type of 3D capture technology that allows high-quality 3D models of people to be reconstructed, compressed and transmitted anywhere in the world in real time.
When combined with mixed reality displays such as HoloLens, this technology allows users to see, hear, and interact with remote participants in 3D as if they are actually present in the same physical space. Communicating and interacting with remote users becomes as natural as face-to-face communication, and elicit natural behaviiors from users.

Market Need

People communicating from different locations have problems in building rapport and trust, due to limited sense of co-presence. On average, an estimate of 1.3 million people travel each day for business purposes in the US only. Videoconferencing technologies, the alternative to travel, only convey limited gestures and body language, which is necessary for rapport-building and trust in business scenarios.
Holoportation became a pertinent solution during our present time due to:
  • Availability of high quality Augmented Reality headsets like Microsoft HoloLens
  • Storage and computation cost reduction
  • Advances in Computer vison

 Holoportation
Morevover, the video conferencing market is epected to reach US$7.85 Billion by 2024, Driven by Globalization of Enterprises, and the increasing need to lower operational costs and effectively manage a global supply chain is contributing to market expansion.

Holoportation with Buildwagon

Buildwagon's holoportation technology allows you to remotely communicate with other people from anywhere in the world and in real-time. Using 3D depth, motion, and full color volumetric video and a standard internet connection, you can now transform any meeting into a unique, personal and engaging experience while reducing travel time and expenses.
Holoportation is pertinant for many use cases, including but not limited to training, meetings, product demonstrations and team collaboration. Communication could be pre-recorded or streamed live in 2D or 3D holograms as prefered.
Holoportation enables team members that are seperated by geographic barriers to collaborate and interact with 3D models in real-time, in a process that is timely and more efficient.

Use Cases

To put it simply, Holoportation help people build trust by bridging physical distances in any context, and its implications is going to change the businesses across industries. Below are few videos by Microsoft to explain the concept further.
